How to add Role Vs Roll into your RPG

The Idea behind Role Vs Roll is to encourage new and experienced players into developing their characters without taking time away from the other players.

We have been GMing for the past 25 years so we know you have other things to worry about when it comes to the game. Developing the individual characters is important but time consuming. Role Vs Roll allows you to work with the entire party without having to split your time.

Set up

  1. Ask each player to draw 3 or more cards .

  2. Have the players look at the cards and pick the card they feel best defines their character with out showing the other players.

  3. Discard the rest into the deck.

At this point you want to be clear that "Subtly Is key to earning points".

Earning Points

The players earn points by fulfilling the requirements of the chosen card. During the game they must workout how to slip in this character attribute without alerting the other players that is what they are doing.

At the ned of the game the all the players (and the GM as final judge.. if the requirements of the cards have been fulfilled ) try to guess what card was chosen.

Role Vs Roll back of cards

Did not fulfill requirements : No points ... its ok try again next week

Everyone Guessed : Well you tried only the base number of points

Less the half : You did very well .. you now get the second level of points

Nobody guessed : AWSOME !!! BONUS POINTS !!!! (But the GM but agree that you have fulfilled the requirements)

Example :

Mike is playing Mr Smith a character not known for his kindness. Mike Draws three cards. Fear , Mercy & Hobby. Mike who has a very good understanding of his character concept decides that it might be nice to show off Mr Smiths kinder side and chooses the Mercy card.

Mike an excellent roleplayer choses to not perform the death blow to an Church of the Illumination Zealot and sets him free. "I aught to kill you however I have a bette idea ... Deliver this message for me ... Stay off our planet "

At the end of the game the players try to guess what was Mike's Card. Because it was within his character concept and he was not over the top nobody noticed.. So in this game system (D6 RPG System) he would get 3 extra experience points to spend.
