Where does your Wizard sleep? Domestic life in RPGs

You have to sleep somewhere and your characters are no different. Some of my faviort characters in fiction all have some sort of a home life. It helps tell the story of where they are in their life. Hell looking at the recent “Logan” trailer show about where Wolverine is currently living. Why would a movie company spend money on showing where this action hero lives? Because it’s important.

Knowing how your wizard sleeps or keeps his casting room helps set the stage for other adventures. This seemingly trivial information helps the GM come up with future plots and/or will make your character seem more lifelike. Sure the fact your character has to do laundry does not sound exciting, But knowing that the laundry machine downstairs has to be shared with the troll down the hall does open up some interesting role playing opportunities. Who knows the troll may end up becoming a NPC who guards your apartment or maybe even goes on a Shadowrun with you..

So don’t think this little bits of info are waisted. because they are not.
